Hi,

I'm Karen and I'm currently studying at Deakin Uni, doing the Cultural Heritage Course. I also work at the Queensland Museum as Assistant Collections Manager so from that point of view I count myself lucky.

I've only just started the course, but am already liking it, except for the delay in course material arriving.

Please drop a line and tell all about YOU!

Hey all

This site should come in handy down the track when I enrol with Deakin....I'm not enrolling till 2006 so you probably won't hear too much from me until then.

My name's Helen, I'm 26 and a recent arts graduate. My only real foray into the museum world was a university internship with sovereign hill last year. Yes - it sounds very daggy - but it was actually a really good experience. I got to investigate the debates around Darwinism that took place in Melb and Ballarat between 1860-1890 - there were some very heated public debates so it was great to uncover them. Sovereign Hill will hopefully use what I found out to create some theatrical public history for the park at some point.

I'm looking forward to hearing about the courses from you guys and maybe some stories from your museum jobs.

cheers

Hi there. I'm not doing museum studies, but I do go to Deakin in Melbourne so I thought I'd join regardless. My major's linguistics, and I finish at the end of the year. I might do Honours or I might go straight into a PG Dip instead...not sure yet. Anyway, I'm Airlie. Hi.

Sorry, have been madly getting assignments done. I have a friend up here about to do her Linguistics Masters, and she's loving it.

Hi! I'm Liz, I work at the Immigration Museum as a customer service officer and am a) studying at Deakin doing Museum Studies and b) doing an internship with the Regional Exhibitions Touring Initiative, curating an exhibition for an organisation called the Traveler's Aid Society which will hopefully be launched mid next year.
I've been studying the course part time and by correspondence this last two semesters- I think I preferred being able to get to classes, but I appreciate the flexibility.

Sorry Liz, madly trying to get assignments in and forgot to reply. The exhibition sounds really interesting, is it travelling Australia or Victoria?
